Trades?

unless I am wrong trades weren't trades always held back until later in the pre season process. like a few days before the season?the reasoning being to let new owners(espec. in yrs. where a lot of turnover has occurred)really get their feet wet with this complex format before making deals. secondly and just as valid to let old/new owners know where the accurately stand w the cap etc.
so I am decidedly opposed to any activity like trades/FA occurring until a more steadfast timeline. we have to learn from the mistakes of the past gentleman, this league /format are far better served by a prudent timeline and not a adrenaline rush to trade or make significant franchise moves until the right time. this league is supposed to be the antithesis to the too quick moving junk food level FB leagues out there.

How are teams supposed to get under the salary cap if they can’t make trades untill a couple of days before the season starts

Looking at 2023, Milt started approving trades on March 6, some of which had already been agreed to before the league had officially opened. March 6 was 24 days before the Yahoo season started. We got a late start on 2023 because we expanded back to 20 teams and held an expansion draft. Teams did not have to finalize their rosters for cap purposes until April 14. That won't happen this year, considering the start of the season is March 20. Our situation this year is more stable. The BOD has checked all trades being made with an eye to whether new owners appear to understand how to approach their cap situations without decimating their teams. Should we see something that concerns us, we will, as we always do, communicate those concerns to the trading teams.

sounds good Gordon and its a thoughtful reply. I personally have always ethical been opposed to trading imo too early in our pre season process and certainly to already agreed to deals. it sets a bad precedent that some people are in communications before or at the outset of the new league year processes.
the point being some people are glued in to activity i.e. the trade market while others for various reasoning cannot/do not want to be. if we have a set time frame when deals will even be allowed to be discussed never mind done/approved. it would promote and prove to be the fairest for all members 1-20 not maybe the handful with more initiative.
my suggestion is 1 week before the season or 10 days at most say hey guys trading is open and have at it. obviously same for FA which we do adhere to(a set out time frame)for fairness purpose. but hey it's your guys world since I've been off the BOD. cheerio

So you don't think we should be able to talk trades until the week before the season starts? If people need to get in cap compliance for the season, you think a week of trade talks is enough? Also, with FA bidding and everything that needs to happen that effects the cap space, draft picks to be traded, etc. There's no way that you can have a rookie draft without the ability to have trading open.
To each his own with opinions and such but you also can't close down everything for everyone because a few people don't check in early on players and what not either.

The BoD has been discussing all of these moves independently and have seen no reason to ask for a deal to be reworked yet. The new owners seem to have a good grasp of the process and have been asking good questions of the board. The best trades are of the win/win variety and that's what we have witnessed so far. Like Gordon said, we are starting the league a full 3+ weeks sooner than last season and now is the time for movement to happen so the teams (both new and returning) know what they are working with regarding cap space for the draft and FA. Dave, I hear what you are saying. After the delays of last season having to find new owners on short notice, I feel the league is moving in a positive direction this spring... Want to make a trade???
