As A new GM you have until Opening day to drop any player without a penalty to your Cap hit. Black contracts are free to drop at anytime, no penalties. Once March 20th hits with the Official kick off to the Yahoo/MLB season starting Blue Contracts are guaranteed going forward and you'd take a Cap hit if you decided to cut them afterwards.
