Schmitt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Nationals.
Advice: Schmitt's first hit in the majors was a long solo shot in the fourth inning off Washington starter Patrick Corbin. Earlier Tuesday, Schmitt earned his first call-up after slashing .313/.352/.410 with a home run, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases through 32 contests with Triple-A Sacramento. His surge through the minors last year has bolstered his prospect status, with his power and defense likely to help the Giants as long as he's on the roster. The natural third baseman filled in at shortstop Tuesday, and he can also play some second base, though Thairo Estrada has that position on lock in the majors.

Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to May 8, with right elbow inflammation.
Advice: An MRI taken Tuesday on Miller's elbow came back negative for any structural damage, but the A's will play things carefully with the 24-year-old starter. He leaves behind a promising 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB through his first 21.1 major-league innings. Zach Neal and Luis Medina are joining Oakland's pitching staff Thursday.

Mitchell underwent scheduled surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Advice: Mitchell is likely done for the remainder of the 2023 season, though Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Thursday that there is a sliver of hope he could return late in the year. The 24-year-old injured his shoulder April 18 on a slide into third base. Joey Wiemer has been drawing the majority of starts in center field for Milwaukee in recent weeks.
