Guys,
So a few questions.
I signed into both sites. The Yahoo Site still has a SD Team listed. Will they be changing to another Team?
I am $101M over the salary cap this year. So, I obviously have to do some trading and/or dropping. I have to be operating in the Black by the start of the season, correct?
Let me know if I understand these other items.
Players in Blue have been acquired via FA Bid. Their contracts (all FA Contracts) are now three year contracts. When they expire, they will automatically become Free Agents again. If so, will they ever become “permanent” players or will they always be FA every three years?
If these players are traded, their FA Contract carries to the new GM.
Can these players be dropped? Is there a buyout or penalty to do this?
Players in Black whose contract year is 2023 - will they become free agents automatically before the start of the season, or will their salary change to their actual MLB Salary (Both amount and year of expiration)?
Players in Black with a contract year in the future are owned until the contact expires. Are they kept and just renewed at their new contract value? Can they be dropped? Is there a buyout or penalty to do this?
Whit Merrifield has his stats in Gold. That is just an indication he is a FA. Nothing more.
Player in black whose contact year is 2023 will have their contract changed in 2024 to whatever they’re being paid in the MLB.
There are two players on my “September Adds List”. Would these be returned to my MiLB Roster before the start of the season?
Players on my MiLB Roster essentially have 1-year contracts. Each year I can renew them or not. Walburt Urena is on my MiLB roster. His salary is $7.4M and it expires in 2023. I am free to release him or any other prospect in my MiLB Roster and replace him with any SD prospect who is not owned by another GM.
I can have up to 20 prospects on my MiLB roster. I need to keep one slop open for the draft.
The player drafted in the rookie draft will be paid according to the Slot Value listed.
When will the Rookie Draft start? I would expect my roster will have to be in order by the start of the draft.
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a solid understanding of the work ahead.
Thanks,
Wojo

I would assume that the other SD team will be changing their name. Milt would be making sure that happens. First, I have changed the salary for Urena to $740K as it appears to be an error. Second, blue contracts are either 1 year or 3 years. A 1 year contract is not renewable and the player becomes a FA again the following year. A player signed to a 3 year contract can be kept at the player's actual salary and converts to a black contract. So for the 2025 season, you would have the option of keeping Bellinger, Alzolay and Heaney at whatever salary they are making that year. Because you are new, any blue contract may be dropped before the season starts without penalty. Once the season starts, if you drop the player you are responsible for their salary for the remaining length of the contract. You have the option to take all future years of the contract in the current year. Before the season starts, you must get your team down to 26 active players (IL players do not count towards the 26, neither do minor leaguers, but suspended players do count. On September 1, you may add 2 more players to the active roster for the remainder of the season. Black contracts may be dropped at any time without penalty, no matter the term of the contract. If a black contract expired in 2023, you can keep the player at his 2024 salary or release him. If the contract extends past 2024, you can release the player with no penalty for any future years. You are not required to keep him for the length of the contract. Correct on Merrifield. Once he is signed by an MLB team, he becomes a black contract for you. Correct on the Minors list. Players on the list are protected in the event they are traded to another team. My minors list has 5 players who Atlanta traded away, but I kept them because they were on my list. Some of the prospects the Yankees traded SD for Soto may belong to you if they are not owned already. And you are correct that any current SD prospect not owned by someone else belongs to you. Joyce can be returned to your Minors list, but Williamson is over the maximum IP to be eligible (50 IP in any season). Hitters with less than 130 ABs in a season are also eligible. However, any player with 3+ years of service time is no longer eligible in any case. Schanuel and Soriano can be put on the Minors list. Again, Minors players count towards the cap. Minors eligible players in the SD farm system are yours. You are not required to put them on your Minors list, but you would lose them if SD traded them to another team. If you release a Minors list player who isn't a SD prospect, you lose him permanently. Milt will announce when the rookie draft begins, and also when Free Agent bidding begins. Before the season starts, you can bid on players regardless of your cap and roster situation. During the season, you must be cap compliant in order to bid. Hope this helps.

There are a few players missing from Yahoo's database. Not sure why. Michael Lorenzen is another. Hopefully this will be corrected soon.

Usually means they are MLB Free Agents and once they sign an MLB contract Yahoo will add them to the player pool. Should be once they've been announced as making the MLB roster closer to opening day.

Yes. As arbitration awards, contract extensions, free agent signings become official, salaries will be updated.

I have adjusted any of your contracts that were for 2023 to reflect 2024 contract values. I have not changed your 2023 league minimum blue contracts,pre-arb and rookie contracts. That will add approximately $280K to your cap number. At present, you have 30 players on your active roster as Gonsolin was put on 60-day IL on Friday. You must be at 26 at start of season.

Any players added or dropped need to be posted in your team's Roster Moves folder. This also applies to moving players from/to IL or Minors/NA list. Ex: "Move player X from IL to active roster. Send player Y back to protected Minors list"
Players that count towards your salary cap include active roster, IL, protected Minors list, and any Guaranteed Free Agent Won (dropped blue contract) players. Also counted are any cash deals.

Regarding the Rookie Draft.... Is it safe to assume that the majority of the prospects available will be the rostered from Philadelphia, Miami, Colorado and LA Angels? Obviously Painter and a few others are already taken.
Additionally, we will not be able to draft prospects from other teams whether they're "protected" or not. Protected status more or less keeps the prospect should the MLB trade him away.
Lastly, will the Rookie Draft occur after teams have decided on their Prospects?
Thanks for helping out in clarifying this.
